Erick Thohir Will Inaugurate The Nitrat Amonium Factory In Bontang Next Month

JAKARTA - PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKTA) or Pupuk Kaltim continues to develop its factories through product diversification outside urea and NPK fertilizers. One of them is by building an amonium nitrate factory located in Bontang, East Kalimantan.

Pupuk Kaltim Corporate Secretary, Teguh Ismartono said that later this year Pupuk Kaltim together with its subsidiaries, namely PT Kaltim Amonium Nitrat (KAN) and also SOE Minister Erick Thohir will inaugurate the construction of an amonium nitrate factory.

"The plan will be inaugurated on December 20, 2023 (will be inaugurated) Pak Erick," he told reporters in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 29.

Teguh said the museum nitric factory to be inaugurated has a capacity of 75,000 metric tons per year (MPTY). This factory is located in the Industrial Estate of PT Kaltim Industrial Estate (KIE).

"It's been a performance test, just commercialized. The capacity is 75,0000 tons of nitrate amonium. This is a joint venture between PKT and Dahana. PKT is a minority with 35 percent and Dahana 65 percent. The production of explosives," said Teguh.

In addition to the nitrate charmonium, Teguh sambubg, PKT has also started the process of building a soda ash factory with a capacity of 300,000 MPTY in Bontang, East Kalimantan.

"The total land area is 16 hectares. Currently, the permit has been completed and is in the tender stage," he said.

Teguh said the construction of the soda ash factory is expected to absorb around 1,000 local workers in Bontang. There are several areas that will target the distribution of soda ash when the PKT factory is completed.

The areas include West Java, East Java, Riau, South Sumatra, and North Sumatra. The five areas are alleged to have a fairly high soda ash requirement.
