PT PLN (Persero) continues to be committed to building green energy-based electricity and supporting infrastructure for the electric vehicle ecosystem in the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago.
This is in line with the mandate of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo who wants to make IKN a green city and later 100 percent are required to use electric vehicles.
"80 percent will use public transportation for electric vehicles and 100 percent of the residents must use electric vehicles. So that later it will become a truly green city that is suitable to live in together," said Jokowi.
Power plants in the archipelago are also designed to be environmentally friendly using green energy. Jokowi detailed that energy plants at IKN Nusantara will use solar or geothermal energy sources as well as hydropower or water resources.
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo said, PLN supports the government's seriousness in building IKN Nusantara with the concept of a forest city or forest city that is smart, green, beautiful and environmentally friendly. All mobility in IKN, he said, will use an electricity-based environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
"The PLN commitment provides electricity that is not only reliable for the new capital city, but also clean in line with the Net Zero Emissions 2060 target in order to utilize the potential for clean energy in Indonesia for the greatest prosperity of the people," Darmawan said in his statement Sunday, November 19.
PLN plans to build at least 19 additional Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) in the IKN Central Government Core Area (KIPP) by 2024. PLN also ensures that SPKLU is available in IKN buffer cities, such as in Balikpapan and Samarinda.
Currently, there are 9 SPKLUs spread across East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan. This number will increase by 31 Units by 2024.
Not only SPKLU, PLN will also prepare a Public Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Station (SPBKLU), as well as a General Electric Charging Station (SPLU) at IKN and the city around IKN. Nationally until October 2023, PLN has provided 622 SPKLU units, 1,839 SPBKLU units and 9,139 SPLU units.
"Because this IKN will be a futuristic city, where all modes of transportation used must be environmentally friendly, then we are ready to support infrastructure needs for electric vehicle charging,” he said.
Darmawan added that electricity in IKN Nusantara will be supported by power plants from new and renewable energy sources, namely the 50 MW Solar Power Plant (PLTS) which was groundbreaking in early November by President Jokowi. Not only solar energy, PLN will develop hydro potential around IKN.
" “ We will also carry out hydro mapping and utilization around IKN with a potential electricity generated of 1,000 MW, so that the IKN Nusantara electricity system will come from new and renewable energy of 100 percent,” concluded Darmawan.
