Tomorrow, President Jokowi And Minister Of Energy And Mineral Resources Will Inaugurate Cirata Floating PLTS

JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif will inaugurate the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in Purwakarta Regency, West Java.

Just so you know, this PLTS is a National Strategic Project (PSN) owned by PLN Nusantara Power and is a storefront for accelerating energy transition in supporting the achievement of PT PLN (Persero) towards Net Zero Emission (NZE) and Green RUPTL.

The PLTS will be able to contribute to NZE by 245 GWh per Year of Green Energy and 214,000 tons of CO2 reduction per year.

"The largest floating PLTS project in Southeast Asia will be inaugurated by President Jokowi tomorrow morning, Thursday 9 November. This is part of Indonesia's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and increase the use of renewable energy. Masdar, with great financial experience and resources, is one of the parties that supports the development of the Cirata PLTS project, is expected to contribute to energy security and environmental sustainability in Indonesia," said the Daily Executive (Plh) Head of the Communications, Public Information Services, and Cooperation (KLIK) Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Endang Sutisna in his statement, Wednesday, November 8.

The inauguration, according to Endang, could be a momentum for the Government and PLN to support the use of clean energy in Indonesia.

With a massive capacity for the scale of the solar power plant project, the Cirata floating PLTS will contribute to the addition of the EBT mix as a form of the country's concern for the environment.

"In addition, the Cirata Floating PLTS tariff which is very competitive is safe, lowers BPP and makes PLN more independent and reduces dependence on subsidized/compensation," he continued.

Endang added that the Cirata Floating PLTS also helps people get greener electricity supply and opens opportunities for the community to participate in green energy development both with Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) and carbon trading.

In addition, continued Endang, the Cirata Floating PLTS is also the first utility scale in Indonesia and the largest in Southeast Asia which has a capacity of 145 MW Ac or the equivalent of 192 MWp, occupies a reservoir area of 200 hectares and has a competitive tariff of 5.8 cents per kWh.

"In its construction it involves local communities as many as 1,400 workers from the local community around the project and MSMEs," he added.

For information, the construction of this project is based on joint investment collaboration, bilateral relations, and successful partnerships for both G2G and B2B to create a better and green world with risk sharing. This project is also supported by a leading lender.

The collaboration was carried out with Masdar, which is a worldwide renewable company, supported by 3 Reputable Lenders (Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Societe Generale, and Standard Chartered Bank).

This project also increased Foreign Direct Investment in Indonesia worth US$143 million.

The achievement of High Technology Floating PV with innovation overcomes the depth of reservoirs challenging 80-100 meters, slope 5-20 degrees, variation of water elevation levels up to 15 meters, and the use of special design for anchoring and mooring with a muddy reservoir base.
