Mahfud MD Pede Able To Raise Votes In Madura

JAKARTA - Mahfud MD's vice presidential candidate (cawapres) is optimistic that he will be able to earn votes in the Madura region, East Java.

The optimization is in the midst of a survey by the Center for Political Science Studies at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) which states that the vice presidential candidate Muhaimin Iskandar will be superior.

He is optimistic that he will be able to reap the voices of the people in the Madura region, in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

"Obviously (optimistically able to reap votes in Madura)," said Mahfud, who was born in Sampang, Madura in 1957, quoting Antara.

According to him, the results of a survey conducted by the UMM Center for Political Science Studies some time ago, were carried out before the presidential candidate pair (candidates) and prospective vice presidential candidates from Ganjar Pranowo and Prabowo Subianto were determined.

"That was before, when Anies went there before the emergence of the second and third vice presidents. At that time they were just declarations. If now, no, we will definitely finish it," he said.

He added that on Friday (3/11) night in Gresik, East Java there were tens of thousands of sympathizers who attended the Prayer of Safety for the Nation at the Gelora Joko Samudro Stadium (Gejos) and provided support, including sympathizers from the Madura region.

"Last night I went to Gresik, more than 60,000 people, it exploded, and many came from Madura," he said.

In a survey conducted by the UMM Center for Political Studies, in the Madura region, in September 2023, Mahfud MD won 26.3 percent of the vote, lower than Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imim) who was able to earn 28.8 percent.

However, in general, Mahfud MD will be the favorite vice presidential candidate in the East Java region with 19.4 percent. Meanwhile, Muhaimin Iskandar, in the East Java region, is in 5th place, with 10.2 percent.

The survey was conducted by involving 1,000 respondents in various regions which were spread proportionally to 100 urban villages or villages in 36 district cities, with an error sampling of approximately 3.1 percent.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has received registrations for three pairs of candidates for president and vice president for the 2024 presidential election, namely Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD, and Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

The Anies-Muhaimin pair was promoted by the NasDem Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and the Ummah Party.

The Ganjar-Mahfud pair was promoted by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the United Development Party (PPP), the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo), and the People's Conscience Party (Hanura).

Meanwhile, the Prabowo-Gibran pair was promoted by the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), the Golkar Party (Golkar), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Democratic Party, the Crescent Star Party (PBB), and the Indonesian People's Wave Party (Gelora).

Then, the Garda Republik Indonesia Party (Garuda), and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), as well as the People's Fair and Prosperous Party (Prima) who did not qualify to participate in the 2024 General Election.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has determined that the election campaign period will take place from 28 November 2023 to 10 February 2024, while the voting is scheduled to be held on 14 February 2024.
