JAKARTA - The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) reported that it had disbursed Rp280 billion for the payment of claims from Bank Perekonomi Rakyat Karya Remaja Indramayu (Perumda BPR KRI) which had revoked its business license on September 12, 2023 by the relevant authorities.

"We are doing this to give peace to customers whose savings have been stuck in this bank for a long time. Until now, the process of paying claims for deposit guarantees by LPS has been carried out in 3 stages with a total value of around Rp. 280 billion belonging to more than 25 thousand customers," said Chairman of the LPS Board of Commissioners Purbaya Yudhi Sadive quoted Thursday, October 26.

Purbaya also appealed to customers who have not been included in the payment phase I to III to remain calm and do not need to worry, and to wait for the announcement of the payment of the next stage of the guarantee claim.

"Most importantly, people don't need to worry and hesitate to save at a bank because there is an LPS that is ready to guarantee customer deposits," he explained.

He further explained that the BPR bankruptcy was not caused by national economic conditions, but a problem in bank business governance. According to him, the cause of the BPR KRI's business license was revoked so that it was liquidated by LPS because of the mismanagement carried out by its management.

Then, LPS will also explore the problems that caused this bank to go bankrupt, by investigating this bank. This means that if there are parties who deliberately harm the bank so that this bank fails, then LPS will follow up on legal channels.

"They are the management and shareholders of BPR, or anyone who, for example, commits a banking crime, we will continue to pursue to be accountable for their actions, there must be a deterrent effect so that in the future there will be no more incidents like this. In the future, we also plan to build an IT system to help the management of BPR throughout Indonesia to have good bank business governance," he said.

Meanwhile, Sri Sunarti, a retired ASN and one of the customers of the BPR KRI expressed her happiness after receiving her deposits at the KRI BPR, and met directly with the Chairman of the LPS Board of Commissioners.

"Our prayers were answered, finally LPS was present and our rights were able to return without a penny, thank you also to the intermediary bank, the service is steady and without the need for us to receive our savings back," he said.

Similarly, Sudiro, who works as an elementary school teacher, also appreciated the presence of LPS. He admitted that he had been a customer of the KRI BPR since 12 years ago, he was very grateful after LPS took over the KRI BPR, because he had experienced obstacles to accepting his rights after the KRI BPR was declared bankrupt.

"I waited a long time to receive my rights back, until finally LPS came and handled all of this. I got my full deposit refund without a penny, the process was very easy and the return was fast. To other customers, I also called for you not to hesitate to save at the bank, because there is an LPS that will guarantee our savings," he said.

BPR KRI has a bank asset of Rp 270.98 billion, third party funds of Rp 337.17 billion with a total account of 34,386 accounts, and a network of 21 offices.

Meanwhile, this BPR is the BPR with the largest number of accounts or customers that LPS has handled since LPS was operating.
