JAKARTA - President Director of PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Yoki Firnandi said the company targets to have 103 ships by the end of 2023.

Yoki said the addition of this fleet was intended for future business needs.

As for 2023, throughout this year PIS has added 5 ships to its fleet.

"Now it's 5 to August 2023, and there will be a few more until the end of the year. Hopefully we will work as much as possible up to 10 to become 5 more," said Yoki, quoted on Wednesday, September 27.

Until now, the total fleet owned by PIS is 98 ships and is targeted to number 103 by the end of this year.

Yoki added that the ships that will be operated by PIS vary, namely ships to transport oil, gas and petrochemicals.

Meanwhile, this year's addition of ships has also taken into account Indonesia's steps in achieving the Net Zero Emissions taget by holding a dual fuel-tech ship that combines fuel oil and LNG.

"We bought a dual fuel ship, generally now it is still the majority LNG, fuel oil and LNG. The rest are methanol," added Yoki.

Previously, in early 2023 PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) planned to acquire 12 to 14 ships throughout 2023.

President Director of PT PIS, Yoki Firnandi, revealed that his party estimates that this acquisition process will require at least US$300 million.

"Especially for 2023, we have allocated a number of capexs to invest and specifically for ships, we have planned in 2023 to carry out acquisitions of 12 to 14 new and second vessels, which according to our calculations, more than 300 million US dollars are needed in 2023 alone," said Yoki at Energy Corner, Monday, February 20.

Yoki continued, PIS had planned to invest in the number of tankers, both for the transportation of crude oil and for transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG).

For crude oil carriers, Yoke continued, POS targets ships the size of Suezmax which can carry up to 1 million barrels of oil.

"We will also enter the LNG ship. The LNG ship is already modern and has a capacity of up to 175.000 cubic meters," said Yoki.

For this action, he continued, his party still needs support in the form of funding from both domestic and foreign banks who have become PIS partners.
