JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that the Nusantara Sail 2023 national sailing activity supports the development of the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago to make Indonesia the axis of the maritime nation.

"Nusantara Sail is a national sailing activity initiated by the Ministry of PUPR to support the development of the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago which will become the axis of Indonesia as a maritime country," said Minister Basuki in a written statement, Saturday, September 23.

Basuki said that the Nusantara Sail 2023 activities were also part of the 10th Road to World Water Forum in Bali 2024 and the 59th Maritime Day Celebration.

"The 2023 Nusantara Sail event is the first agenda which is expected to continue to be carried out in the following years. This activity is also an effort to increase collective awareness in preserving the sea and promoting sailing culture as the identity of the Indonesian nation as a maritime country," he said.

Meanwhile, Minister Basuki accompanied by the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi welcomed the arrival of the Nusantara Sail 2023 participants in the Balang Island Bridge area, North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, on Friday, September 22.

Previously, on September 9 2023, Minister Basuki had released the departure of the participants who sailed from Ancol Beach, Jakarta, to IKN Nusantara.

Basuki expressed his appreciation to the Nusantara Sail 2023 participants who not only came from within the country, but also from abroad. He also hopes that the next Nusantara Sail activity can be attended by even more participants.

The Nusantara Sail 2023 activity itself is an event that brings together Indonesian sailors who use historic traditional ships with international sailors from various countries.

Nusantara Sail 2023 also has a social and cultural introduction mission that highlights the historical stories of Indonesian sailors which also reflects the spirit of building the archipelago.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi appreciated the PUPR Ministry for initiating Nusantara Sail 2023.

According to him, this activity is an effort to realize President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) vision and mission to introduce IKN Nusantara.

"We all aspire to make the archipelago a model city in Indonesia. Mr. Basuki is the leader here and we will certainly support and complement it. Let's make various efforts together so that the President's vision and mission can become a reality," he said.
