59th National Maritime Day Commemorated September 23, 2023, Coordinating Ministry For Maritime Affairs And Fisheries Do This

JAKARTA - The 59th National Maritime Day will be commemorated on Saturday, September 23, 2023. One of the important national days is commemorated as an effort to raise awareness of the Indonesian people of great maritime potential in Indonesia.

According to the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves), National Maritime Day is celebrated on September 23 every year based on Decree (SK) Number 249 of 1964 concerning National Maritime Day.

Quoted from its official Instagram page, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Literacy has launched the Month of Maritime Literacy in order to enliven the celebration of the 59th National Maritime Day in 2023.

"In order to enliven the celebration of the 59th National Maritime Day of 2023, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Literacy will launch various activities from various deputies / ministries / institutions / communities ahead of the upcoming National Maritime Peak event," wrote the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs in its official Instagram account @kemenkomarves, Friday, September 22.

The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries also carries the theme of National Maritime Day 2023 with the slogan "Developed Screen Towards Advanced Indonesia". The theme is also supported by the use of hashtags or hashtags #HMN59 and #HariMaritimNasional2023.

The peak of the 2023 National Maritime Day celebration will be filled with the National Maritime Day of Maritime Affairs on September 26, 2023. Furthermore, on September 27, 2023, the 2023 Maritime Day Celebration Peak will be held in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

For your information, the commemoration of National Maritime Day began with the inauguration of the Navy by President Soekarno in 1953. This was as conveyed in President Soekarno's speech as follows:

"Let us be a seafaring nation again. Yes, the seafaring nation in its widest sense. Not just being the gahos-jongos on board, but the seafarers in the sense of the ocean horizon. The seafarers who have a commercial fleet, the seafarers who have a military fleet, the seafarers whose busyness in the sea matches the rhythm of the ocean waves themselves".

Then, in 1957, Soekarno announced the Declaration of Djuanda. The declaration declared to the world that the Indonesian Sea covers the sea around, between, and within the Indonesian Archipelago into a unitary territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

Then, on September 23, 1963, after the First Maritime National Conference (Munas) which took place at Tugu Tani, President Soekarno set September 23 as National Maritime Day, and in 1964, Soekarno issued Decree (SK) Number 249/1964 which set September 23 as National Maritime Day.
