JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) is said to have won an award from the Central Information Commission (KIP) related to public information services that are friendly to people with disabilities.

The award was given at the launch of the results of the 2023 Public Information Disclosure Index (IKIP) in the middle of this week.

Head of the BI Communication Department Erwin Haryono said the efforts made by the central bank were a manifestation of the mandate of Law no. 14 of 2008 concerning Openness of Public Information.

"We want to convey the idea of presenting correct, accurate and responsible public information to be unavoidable," he said in a written statement, Friday, September 15.

Erwin revealed that awareness of the importance of fulfilling public information for the public encourages the government and public bodies to make various breakthroughs.

"Hopefully, this award motivates institutions, including BI, to continue to provide excellent public information services for the entire community," he said.

He explained that a number of BI innovations in the dissemination of disability-friendly public information include the provision of supporting facilities to facilitate information acquisition and the implementation of public education for persons with disabilities to increase program and policy understanding.

"For example, education on the introduction of rupiah money for the year of emission 2022 to visually impaired people in social institutions," he said.

Furthermore, it was also conveyed that these various initiatives were in line with the important aspects put forward by the Law on Public Information Disclosure, namely the obligation to convey (obligation to tell), the right to know, and access to information (access to information) for all Indonesian people.

For information, KIP is a commission that functions to implement the Law on Public Information Disclosure and its implementation regulations, establishes technical instructions for public information service standards and resolves Public Information Disputes through mediation and/or non-ligatory adjudications.

The award given by KIP is in line with its function to support public information services inclusively, including persons with disabilities.
