The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) of the Directorate General of Land Transportation together with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) conducted research on the eSAF framework of Honda motorcycles.

This research was carried out as an effort to create safe motorized vehicles and follow up on public complaints.

On September 1, the Ministry of Transportation's research team together with the NTSC came and saw firsthand the production process for the eSAF framework at the Honda motorcycle factory in the Indotaise Industrial Estate Karawang, West Java.

The Director General of Land Transportation, Hendro Sugiatno explained that according to the research team, PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) made an eSAF framework for raw materials in the form of High Strength Steel (HSS) which was processed into a frame and then coating was carried out using the Cathodic Electro Deposition (CED) method by tapping or bagping.

The research team, continued Hendro, also saw that the product quality control process began with the incoming of materials, press, welding and coating stages. Control items including dimensions and thickness from the results of the coating process have been carried out and have met global standard manufacturing requirements.

Based on the results of the calculation of finite elements of method and validated by actual testing at facilities owned by PT. AHM, said Hendro, it can be said that the structure of the eSAF frame is quite strong and does not have a critical area or fatigue with high stress load.

"The grip that happened is still far below the Yield Point (elastic limit) of the frame material," said Hendro in an official statement, Friday, September 15.

Not only seeing production, but the Directorate General of Hubdat and KNKT also researched the eSAF framework of consumer motors. Based on the results of the examination, it was found that there were carats in the frame that were not coated with coatings and the lower drain hole which had the potential to be covered with dirt. So that the water is clogged and has the potential to cause humid air around the frame and can be corrosive.

This research was conducted by the Directorate General of Hubda with the NTSC from August to September 2023.

Hendro also appealed not to worry because PT. AHM is optimizing the method of protecting frames from corrosion as a whole.

"The results of the research conducted by the research team have been followed up. We together with the NTSC will oversee and oversee the process of examining and handling this eSAF framework," he said.
