JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Water Sources targets the completion of the Tano Ponggol channel which is included in the Lake Toba Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP), Samosir Regency, North Sumatra, to be completed in November 2023.

The Tano Ponggol channel widening work itself was carried out by the Directorate General of Water Resources through the Sumatra II River Basin Center (BWS) with a value of IDR 320.5 billion, and continued work (SYC) with a contract value of IDR 31 billion in the 2020 fiscal year (TA).
Furthermore, in FY 2021, the Tano Ponggol channel widening part of Huta Lumban Silo was also carried out with a contract value of IDR 4.2 billion, as well as the work of Counterweight and Alur Tano Ponggol (MYC) on FY 2022-2023 with a contract value of IDR 36.8 billion.
The Tano Ponggol channel is built along 1,200 meters (m) with a planned width of 70 m and a width of 80 m, as well as a road width of 5 m of inspection.
Support from the Ministry of PUPR through the completion of the Tano Ponggol channel and the Aek Tano Ponggol bridge built by the Directorate General of Highways is expected to open up opportunities for tourism development of the Lake Toba DPSP in Samosir Regency.
