The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements is ensuring that the arrangement of the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir area in Central Java will be completed by the end of this year.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said Gajah Mungkur Reservoir had been operating since 1982 and stemmed the longest river on the island of Java, namely the Bengawan Solo river.

"The Mungkur Elephant reservoir has a function as flood control of 4000 cubic meters per second, irrigates 30,000 hectares of rice fields, provides 600 liters of raw water per second and as a manufacturer of 12.4 megawatts of electricity," he said in a press release on Sunday, September 10.

Basuki explained that this reservoir has a very strategic role for the surrounding area with an inundation area of more than 8,800 hectares.

"The Mungkur Elephant Reservoir is one of the largest reservoirs in Indonesia," he said.

"The arrangement of the Mungkur Gajah Reservoir Area Zone 1 Phase 1 has been carried out since September 2022 and is targeted for completion in December 2023.
