JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Highways has started the implementation of accelerating the construction of the Regional Road Inpres (IJD) work which is a priority for the government, one of which is in West Kalimantan Province (West Kalimantan).

This refers to the direction of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as stated in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 3 of 2023 concerning the Acceleration of Increasing Connectivity of Regional Roads.

In West Kalimantan Province, the Ministry of PUPR through the West Kalimantan National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) of the Directorate General of Highways has started repairing the 30.47 kilometer Nanga Manday-Nanga Embaloh Section (km).

"The work starts from August 2023 to December 2023 with a budget of Rp29.13 billion with contractors PT MegaIndo Inti Kapuas-PT Pangkalan Bangun Borneo, KSO," said Head of BPJN West Kalimantan, Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Handiyana in his official statement, quoted on Wednesday, September 6.

Handiyana said the road would later be connected to national roads on the Nanga Semangut-Putussibau section.

"So, if previously residents had to transport plantation and fishery products through the river at a fairly expensive cost, so it would be cheaper by land," he said.

Andi, who is the village head of Nanga Embaloh, Embaloh Hilir District, Kapuas Hulu Regency, said he was very grateful for the assistance of the central government which finally repaired the road section.

"The application for road repairs has been for decades. Before this road was very expensive, to go back and forth (PP) to Putussibau City by river with a boat of around Rp. 200,000, if by land, the cost could be reduced by half," he said.
