JAKARTA - The involvement of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in the 2023 World Seafood Shanghai (WSS) has succeeded in recording potential transactions worth 15.6 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp238.65 billion.

This achievement also exceeds the set target of IDR 10 million US Dollars.

"Alhamdulillah, the potential for transactions is beyond the target, this shows that Indonesian products are very attractive in the world market," said Director General of Strengthening Competitiveness for Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) Budi Sulistiyo in a written statement, quoted Monday, August 28.

At the international exhibition which lasted for 3 days, the KKP brought nine exporters of fishery products selected from 92 interested companies.

Selection is carried out based on integrity criteria (especially trusted buyers/no negative records), product conformity with the Chinese market, and good performance (able to meet the buyer's request).

The products on display include shrimp, squid, octopus, red fish, tuna, and tobiko (flying fish eggs).

Budi said that international exhibitions are one of the promotion spaces for Indonesian fishery products to be increasingly recognized by the world.

"Exporters are drained, we are helping to open up new market opportunities in China through this WSS," he said.

In addition to participating in the WSS event, Budi, who led the KKP delegation, also conducted an comparative study on the management of the Shanghai Changxing Hengsha Fishing Port port, which is Shanghai's largest fishing port.

The KKP delegation also saw firsthand the Shanghai Hi-Chain Food Co fishery processing facility, Ltd.

Not only that, but the KKP delegation also conducted an comparative study at Shanghai Brilliant Gum, a seaweed processing company, to understand the application of processing technology at the company.

"Our mission to China is not only for exhibitions, but also to open up other opportunities that we can optimize," he said.

For information, the People's Republic of China (RRT) is the second largest fishery export destination for Indonesia.

The export value of fishery to China has reached 1.12 billion US dollars throughout 2022, an increase of 26.3 percent in 2021.

WSS 2023 itself will be held on 23-25 August 2023 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC), Shanghai, People's Republic of China (RRT).

The KKP participated through the facilitation of the Indonesian Pavilion covering an area of 90 square meters at Hall E5, Booth #E5B2-06 which featured various kinds of Indonesian fishery products.

On the second day of the exhibition, a memorandum of understanding was signed between PT Perikanan Indonesia (one of the participants of the Indonesian Pavilion) and the private company Tiancheng (Shanghai) Supply Chain Service Co, Ltd. about the Development of Integrated Fisheries Product Business.

In addition, in a series of exhibition activities, the KKP delegation also received a visit from One Belt and One Road International Group which was interested in collaborating on investment in fish flour processing machines and other fishery products.
