Ridwan Kamil Reveals Discourse To Increase Electric Vehicle Incentives To IDR 10 Million

JAKARTA - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil revealed that there was a government discourse to increase the incentive for electric motorcycles from IDR 7 million to IDR 10 million.

Ridwan explained that this proposal appeared in a coordination meeting to anticipate air pollution chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Friday, August 18.

"Strengthening electric vehicles, there is an incentive discourse from Rp. 7 million to Rp. 10 million for electric motors and conversions," said Ridwan Kamil, Friday, August 18.

Ridwan explained, the discourse on increasing the amount of this incentive is to encourage the use of electric vehicles so as to reduce pollution from fueled fuel vehicles.

In addition to the discourse on adding electric vehicle incentives, Ridwan said that there were other discourses proposed at the meeting, including evaluating PLTU and reducing emissions, then reducing vehicle restrictions, strengthening car and electric motor incentives, short-term plans to maximize work from home (WFH) for companies in Jakarta and Bogor, Depok Bekasi.

Previously, a number of parties said that the use of electric vehicles was one of the factors that could reduce pollution in Jakarta air.

Head of the Center of Food, Energy, and Sustainable Development INDEF Abra Alattov said efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector were also carried out by encouraging shifting fossil-based private vehicles into electric-based vehicles.

He assessed that the transition to using electric-based vehicles could cut more than half of carbon emissions compared to fossil-based vehicles, which is equivalent to 1.2 CO2e per 1.2 kWh of electricity with the composition of the energy mix of power plants like today.

With the fiscal incentives currently provided by the government in the form of VAT pieces for the purchase of electric cars and electric motor subsidies, Abra hopes that these facilities can attract people to switch to electric vehicles.
