Sekip Ujung Flyover Overcome Traffic Jams In Palembang, Minister Basuki: Soft Launching February 2024

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is building the Sekip Ujung Flyover in Palembang City, South Sumatra.

The construction of the 660 meter (m) flyover is to unravel the congestion that often occurs on Jalan Basuki Rahmad-Jalan R. Sukamto and Jalan Amphibi-Jalan Force 66 section.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono targets the construction of the Sekip Ujung Flyover to be completed in February 2024 or sooner than the contract target in April 2024.

"The Soft Launching plan is early February 2024. PT Waskita Karya must be able to," Basuki said in a press release, quoted Friday, August 11.

Basuki assessed that the construction of the flyover was the key to unraveling congestion. With smoother traffic, it is hoped that it will facilitate the movement of people and goods, as well as increase regional economic growth.

"The construction of bridge infrastructure, flyovers, and underpasses will facilitate connectivity and traffic accessibility. In addition, it will provide alternatives for residents to increase economic productivity," he said.

The physical flyover work was carried out by the South Sumatra National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN), the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Highways with contractors PT Waskita Karya and PT Kencana (KSO) with funds sourced from Government Sharia Securities (SBSN) worth IDR 152 billion.

Based on data held by the Ministry of PUPR, the physical progress has so far reached 46.39 percent. The Sekip Ujung flyover itself has a length of 660 m, consisting of 190 m (bridges), 160 m (oprit on the side of Jalan Basuki Rahmad), and 310 m (oprit on the side of Jalan R. Sukamto).

According to the plan, the flyover will also be carried out by beautification of building ornaments by prioritizing local arts and culture, so that it can beautify the face of Palembang City.
