JAKARTA - Indonesia and Japan have become strategic partners in an effort to increase comprehensive economic cooperation, especially in developing competent industrial human resources (HR).

Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Masrokhan said, Indonesia and Japan have established quite intense cooperation, including in the field of implementing digital technology or industrial implementation 4.0.

The implementation of collaboration in this field includes training and mentoring programs for industrial and student workers since 2021 at the Ministry of Industry and PIDI 4.0 STMI Polytechnic, which is also coordinated by the Indonesia-Japan Business Network (IJBNet) in the Lean Monozukuri for Making Indonesia 4.0 (LEMMI 4.0) program.

Head of BSKJI Masrokhan appreciated IJBNet, which this year is still focused on developing industrial human resources through superior work programs that will be collaborated with Japan.

IJBNet itself is an institution established by a number of industry players in 2018 to accommodate the aspirations and ideas of industry players and related parties in improving business and technology cooperation relations between the two countries.

Masrokhan said that the two countries are also actively collaborating in building a competitive manufacturing industry, such as the cooperation of the New Manufacturing Industry Development Center (New MIDEC) which has two pilot projects, namely the SME Development for Automotive Industry, as well as the Mold and Dies for Machinery, Automotive and Electronics Industries for the period 2023-2028.

"The implementation form includes, among others, through the New Lean Manufacturing for Making Indonesia 4.0 (New LEMMI 4.0) workshop, as a continuation of the LEMMI 4.0 program that was implemented last year," he said.

In addition, he said, there were a number of other economic cooperation between Indonesia and Japan, such as the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA), which had completed the General Review process and in the finalization of the change protocol.

"There are several government policies and programs that are part of the cooperation between Indonesia and Japan, including accelerating sustainable development based on green economy, green industry, and green technology, including by accelerating the development of Electric Vehicle (EV)," he concluded.
