JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) reports that the digital retail payment system Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) won the Indonesia Recognition of Excellence 2023 award from OpenGov Asia.
Head of the BI Communications Department Erwin Haryono said that the international organization OpenGov Asia assessed that QRIS had an impact on digital transformation that was beneficial to society.
"QRIS is seen as a powerful tool that can support regional digitization and integration," he said in a written statement quoted Friday, August 4.
Erwin said this achievement is a form of appreciation for the hard work of the central bank in supporting digital economic and financial inclusion and the connectivity of payments between countries.
"QRIS benefits both users and traders, especially the MSME segment," he said.
Erwin added, until the first semester of 2023 there had been 26.7 million merchants with 91.4 percent of that number being MSMEs. In line with this development, the number of QRIS transactions throughout 2022 was recorded at 1.03 billion transactions, or grew by 86 percent (year on year/yoy).

"Synergy that is strong with all relevant stakeholders such as the government, industry players and the community, is one of the main strategies in expanding the QRIS acceptance," Erwin concluded.
