PT PLN (Persero) noted that throughout 2023 it has succeeded in utilizing 1.43 million tons of Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA) or the ash from the coal burning process at steam power plants (PLTU) into raw materials for various sectors that can revive the community's economy.
Meanwhile, until June 2023, the total utilization of FABA from PLTU has reached 1.45 million tons or 101.19 percent of the total FABA production.
This figure also increased by about 50 percent compared to the first semester of 2022 which was only 951,000 tons.
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo said, the use of FABA is clear evidence of PLN's commitment to processing the remains of coal burning from power generation operations to become more useful.
FABA is now the driving catalyst for the economy of the people around the PLTU.
"Now all PLN plants are the epicenter of environmental, social and community welfare improvements. So that the presence of PLN plants can not only be a source of electricity but also be able to move the wheels of the economy in the community," said Darmawan, Friday, July 28.
Throughout the first semester of 2023, PLN has used FABA to more than 1 million paving, 246,000 bricks, 2,000 tetrapods, 48 kilometers of concrete roads, 34,000 tons of land stabilization material, 699 tons of fertilizer. The largest utilization of FABA is used as a substitute for cement raw materials, which is 671,287 tons or 47 percent of the total utilization of FABA.
Based on the monthly graph, the use of FABA continues to increase in the first semester of 2023. It is recorded that June is the largest number where the use of FABA reaches 129 percent, an increase compared to utilization in May, which is 83.8 percent.
The most utilization of FABA in 2023 was achieved by the Suralaya PLTU unit in Banten of 287,000 tons, the Paiton PLTU in East Java of 155,000 tons and the Tanjung Jati B PLTU in Central Java of 97,000 tons.
PLN has utilized FABA stored in Temporary Storage Sites (TPS) of 1.3 million tons or a reduction of 57.83 FABA baseline stacks in 2021.

PLN is open to people who want to participate in using this FABA. FABA itself is not B3 waste so it can be processed and provides many benefits," said Darmawan.
