Kemenperin-JICA Synergizes To Drive The Electric Motorcycle Industry In Indonesia Through The Workshop

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) collaborated with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to hold an electric vehicle industry development event through a workshop with the title "The 1st Workshop on JICA Project 2023", some time ago.

"This event is a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in order to provide information to relevant stakeholders in Indonesia regarding JICA's plan to implement a data collection program and study on industrial development and strengthening the supply chain of electric motorcycles in Indonesia," said the Director General of Resilience, Region and International Industrial Access (KPAII) of the Ministry of Industry, Eko SA Cahyanto in Jakarta, Monday, July 24.

In the workshop, various important topics discussed include roadmaps for the production of electric vehicles, battery standardization, security and battery recycling issues, as well as investment promotions for Japanese companies in Indonesia.

The JICA Consultant team present gave a presentation on the agenda and objectives of the JICA Project 2023.

"This project will involve study activities on battery standardization, surveys for demand for electric motorcycles and battery exchange services, pilot projects, as well as surveys on the impact on conventional motorcycle parts manufacturers that already exist," said Eko.

Eko said the workshop was also an opportunity for the Ministry of Industry and JICA to listen to technical input from relevant stakeholders.

"Discussions carried out focus on important issues, such as surveys of supply chains for components of electric motor vehicles in Indonesia, impacts on the development of the electric motor vehicle industry ecosystem, as well as the preparation of a reference framework for project main activities," he said.

As a follow-up to the workshop, the Ministry of Industry and JICA will continue to coordinate in implementing the JICA Project 2023 plan. The Ministry of Industry's Directorate of International Industrial Resources and Promotion (ASDIPI) will facilitate the implementation of surveys and coordination with various relevant ministries/agencies and associations.

According to Eko, this collaboration is an important step to encourage economic growth, innovation, and technological transformation.

"It is hoped that the electric vehicle industry can develop rapidly in Indonesia, create new jobs, and reduce the environmental impact of using conventional motorized vehicles," he concluded.
