Perhutani Together With Other SOEs Increase People's Coffee Production In Central Java

JAKARTA - Perum Perhutani together with state-owned companies through the Nusantara Coffee Project Management Office (PMO) continues to increase people's coffee production in Central Java (Central Java).

"In order to increase this productivity, Perhutani together with BUMN involved in the PMO Kopi Nusantara ecosystem (upstream) will provide more intensive cultivation technical assistance," said Perhutani Operations Director Natalias Anis Harjanto in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Sunday 9 July.

Natalias Anis Harjanto, representing Perhutani as the Coordinator of the PMO Kopi Nusantara Program in Central Java, said that the target is half of the land currently being utilized by farmers, intervention can be given together with stakeholders at PMO Kopi Nusantara.

As the fourth largest coffee producer in the world, it turns out that coffee production in Indonesia is still dominated by 96.1 percent by people's coffee plantations. This is the focus for SOEs to continue to improve the welfare of farmers through increasing productivity and quality of people's coffee beans.

After providing assistance in various locations in Indonesia, currently SOEs through the Nusantara Coffee Project Management Office (PMO) are starting to intervene in the Central Java region, as conveyed in the kick-off of the Makmur Kopi Program in Temanggung Regency.

The coffee power supply in Central Java cannot be separated from Perhutani's land management participation by the surrounding community. In the Temanggung Regency area itself, almost 4,000 hectares of Perhutani land have been used by the community to cultivate coffee commodities with a productivity of 250 kg greenane per hectare per year. This productivity is still very low and needs to be improved to provide a better life for the community.

Chairman of PMO Kopi Nusantara as well as Marketing Director of PTPN Holding Dwi Sutoro said that increasing people's coffee productivity is currently the main effort being pursued by all stakeholders.

"The point is, our efforts are how people's coffee that contributes 96.1 percent of national production can continue to increase and provide better welfare for farmers," said Dwi Sutoro.

Technical assistance begins with the provision of access to fertilizers facilitated by Pupuk Kalimantan Timur. Farmers through the Farmers Group or Forest Village Community Institutions (LMDH) can get distributor prices lower than the price of fertilizers in the market.

Pupuk Kalimantan Timur juga akan memberikan rekomendasi pemupukan sesuai dengan kondisi unsur hara tanah melalui proses uji laboratorium.

In addition to providing assistance in terms of fertilization and cultivation, access to financial literacy is also provided by BNI with several available financing schemes.

Financing can be used for cultivation and processing after harvest according to the needs of farmers in the field. The application for financing can be made through Agent 46 spread across each village. In addition, BNI also provides assistance in the form of business matching so that Go Global people's coffee through the Xpora program.

From the post-harvest side, PTPN 9 provides processing facilities to provide added value for people's coffee production. Processing on the downstream side, for example, such as roasting and packaging activities, is expected to increase people's income exponentially.

In terms of marketing, ID FOOD through the Indonesian Trade Company (PT PPI) is ready to become off-takers who buy and distribute people's coffee.

PT PPI has exported to various countries for various commodities including coffee. In addition, digitalization will also be carried out with digital platforms currently being developed by Telkom Indonesia and Perhutani.
