PT Taman Wisata Borobudur Prambanan and Ratu Boko (TWC) are considering the possibility of increasing the number of tourists allowed to climb to the top of Borobudur Temple.

It is known, so far TWC only allows 1,200 visitors who can go up to the Borobudur Temple body in a day.

"The issue of a quota of 1,200 people is most likely there is still room to study," said General Manager of the Borobudur Unit of PT TWC Jamaludin Mawardi to the media in Magelang, Central Java, Friday, July 7.

Jamaludin explained that this was due to the lack of interest in tourists to visit Borobudur Temple and pursue the target of two million foreign tourists to Borobudur Temple.

Furthermore, he explained, the concept of limiting visitors has been designed for a long time by the Directorate General of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) as an effort to strengthen Borobudur Temple into one of the world-class tourism areas and world cultural heritage by UNESCO.

Regarding the restrictions on 1,200 tourists per day, he said, visitors are divided into 8 sessions according to the operating hours of the temple area so that 150 visitors are allowed per hour.

"If our operating hours are 8 hours, it means that the calculation is 150 x 8 to 1,200 tourists per day.

"Currently being tested based on the guidelines issued by the Director General of Culture. There, the number of visitors is 1,200 per day," explained Jamaludin.

Borobudur Temple Rising Ticket Prices

Regarding ticket prices, Jamaludin explained, if the ticket price set for visitors is still the same as before the limitation, which is IDR 50,000 for domestic tourists and 25 US dollars or IDR 375.000 for foreign tourists.

"For those who go up to the differentiable temple, only the property used is because they go up to the temple, they are required to be accompanied by guides and wear special footwear or upangan and bracelets as markers," concluded Jamaludin.

Thus, the final amount that must be paid by domestic tourists is IDR 125,000 and IDR 455 for foreign tourists.
