Visiting Downing Street, Sri Mulyani Voices RI Strategic Issues In Great Britain

JAKARTA Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani in the middle of this week continued the official agenda in Europe by meeting a number of leaders of the United Kingdom. This was revealed by the state treasurer through a written message.

One of my agendas in London this time was to meet fellow Minister of Finance's colleagues. This afternoon I met the Chancellor of the House Exchequer of the UK, Jeremy Hunt at his office 11 Downing Street," he said via @smindrawati Wednesday, June 21 local time.

According to the Minister of Finance, there are several topics that fill the discussion this time.

"Especially related to bilateral cooperation that has long existed between Indonesia and the United Kingdom (Great Britain)," he said.

The Minister of Finance explained that he and Jeremy also discussed the chairmanship of Indonesia in ASEAN this year. One of the issues highlighted is Indonesia's priority agenda related to food security which is currently the crucial focus of various world flora.

It was stated that the impact of the global tensions of the Russia-Ukraine war would certainly not be missed from topics, especially on the economic sector.

"We discussed how Indonesia and Britain can play a role in reducing this impact on both regional and global scales," he stressed.

The state treasurer added that the issue of energy transition which is now one of Indonesia's priorities also adorns the discussion. The Minister of Finance said that the topic of potential cooperation between the Indonesian government and the British government was mainly in terms of climate financing and also the carbon market which was first implemented by the British government.

"I would like to thank Jeremy for his support for the Indonesian Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) in the context of submitting membership at the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Indonesian membership will be determined at the FATF Plenary Session which will be held on June 21, 2023 at the OECD Conference Center, Paris," he added.

The Minister of Finance stated that the conversations were warm and full of benefits.
