Attending ASEAN Japan Business Week, Minister Of Industry Agus Explains These Three Important Issues

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita revealed three strategic drivers in supporting 16 Priority Economic Achievements launched by Indonesia for 2023 in the Japanese ASEAN Business Week in Tokyo, today. The first strategic driver is recovery and rebuilding.

"We are committed to developing a conducive business environment and stimulating growth throughout ASEAN and its surroundings. Therefore, the contribution of the private sector will be very important, because of its resilience and being able to adapt over the last few years," said Minister of Industry Agus in a written statement received by VOI, Monday, June 5.

Next, a digital economy development strategy to take advantage of ASEAN's great potential. "We are ready to become a leading digital community. The collaborative partnership between public stakeholders and private industry players will improve digital infrastructure and bridge the digital divide in our community," said Agus.

The last or third strategy is related to the issue of sustainability in the country's economy to ensure sustainable business practices for the welfare of future generations.

"Dengan menuju masa depan yang lebih hijau, ASEAN berkomitmen menjadi pemain industri utama dalam ekosistem kendaraan listrik, dengan menyadari adanya kondisi saling melengkapi dalam hal sumber daya, teknologi, dan potensi pasar untuk pengembangan kendaraan listrik," ujarnya.

Minister of Industry Agus added that there is great potential in cooperation between Indonesia, ASEAN, and Japan in the field of digital transformation, sustainable development, and the combination between the two.

"By taking advantage of our respective advantages, I invite all stakeholders to take advantage of the opportunities presented between Indonesia, ASEAN, and Japan, through various platforms, such as the Japanese Indonesian Economic Partnership (IJEPA), the Japan ASEAN Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the ongoing Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Agreement (IPEF) negotiations," he said.

In the ASEAN Japan Business Week event, Agus committed to deepening the friendship between the two countries which had been running for 50 years.

"This collaboration has the opportunity to expand economic partnerships and map the way forward, as well as to overcome the challenges of the future for the stability and prosperity of the region," he explained.

The holding of a series of ASEAN Japan Business Week events is also to commemorate the milestone of Japan's 50-year ASEAN friendship.

On the same occasion, Minister of Industry Agus also witnessed the signing of the MoU between the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), namely regarding the Young Business Leaders Summit, the ASEAN-Japan Co-Creation Fast Track Initiative and the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), and the ASEAN Net Zero Hub. The MoU exchange was also carried out between NEXI and the Mitsubishi USJ Bank.

"Hopefully the agreement built will bring about a transformation for ASEAN-Japan economic relations," he concluded.
