JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is targeting the construction of the Kuala Tanjung-Tebing Tinggi-Parapat Toll Road to be completed in July 2023.

The presence of toll roads along a total of 143.25 km will increase connectivity in North Sumatra (North Sumatra), as well as facilitate access to tourists, especially from Medan City to the Lake Toba Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) and Kuala Tanjung Port.

Expert Staff to the Minister of PUPR for Technology, Industry and Environment as well as Spokesperson for the Ministry of PUPR Endra S. Atmawidjaja said that the progress of the construction of Section 1 to Section 3 will be completed soon, which is currently just working on MCB, guard rail, road handling, gate, cliff work, and road markings.

"For section 1 to 3 now, it's a little more finished. I think it's just a funeral, hopefully all the 3 segments can be completed in July," said Endra in a written statement, Monday, May 29.

Endra said that the Tebing Tinggi-Indrapura-Kisaran toll road and the Kuala Tanjung-Tebing Tinggi-Parapat toll road are part of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road that connects Tebing Tinggi with Kuala Tanjung Port, so that it can support the development of industrial and tourist areas in North Sumatra.

According to him, the Tebing Tinggi-Indrapura-Kisaran Toll Road is part of the backbone of the logistics road, where the main roads next to the Trans Sumatra road have been built previously.

"So, apart from us building backbone roads as logistics roads, we also build feeders. The first feeder from Indrapura to Kuala Tanjung, the second feeder from Tebing Tinggi to Parapat tourism," said Endra.

The construction of the Kuala Tanjung-Tebing Tinggi-Parapat Toll Road is divided into 6 sections with an investment value of IDR 13.4 trillion. Section 1-4 is carried out through a Government and Business Entity Cooperation (KPBU) scheme with PT Waskita Karya for Sections 2 and 3 and PT Hutama Karya for Sections 1 and 4. Meanwhile, for Sections 5 and 6 it becomes part of the government.

The progress of the construction of Section 1 Tebing Tinggi-Indrapura throughout 20.4 Km has now been completed 100 percent, then Section 2 Indrapura-Kuala Tanjung along 18.05 Km reached 87.2 percent.

For Section 3 of the 30-Km High-Serbelawan Cliff, it has reached 79.3 percent, and Section 4 of Serbelawan-Pematang Siantar along 28 km has reached 63.7 percent.

Meanwhile, section 5 Pematang Siantar-Seribudlok along 22.30 km and Section 6 Seribudolok-Parapat along 16.70 km, which is the government's support, are still in the design finalization stage.

Furthermore, said Endra, the Tebing Tinggi-Serbelawan section will soon be opened and inaugurated after a function-worthy test in July 2023, so that it can be immediately utilized because its presence is eagerly awaited by the community.

He assessed that the benefits of the toll road were seen when it was functionalized in December 2022 for the Christmas and April 2023 holidays yesterday for the Lebaran holiday. With the functionality of the toll road, traffic, which is usually stuck in Tebing Tinggi, can now be unraveled.

"Hopefully in July all of its functions can be carried out, so that we can propose to be inaugurated simultaneously in 3 segments," concluded Endra.
