PT PLN (Persero) recorded that the highest electricity consumption (peak load) of national electricity during the Eid al-Fitr 2023 period increased compared to 2022, especially in homecoming destination areas.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the national peak load during the Eid al-Fitr 1444 H period this time reached 29.9 gigawatts (GW) with a supply capacity of 44.5 GW. Especially in homecoming destination areas, there was an increase compared to the peak load on Eid last year.

"The peak electricity peak at Eid al-Fitr 1444 H has increased in all regions, especially in homecoming destinations and tourist destinations. The growth in electricity consumption reflects the equitable distribution of community activities, which were previously centered in big cities, is now spread to the regions," said Darmawan, Wednesday, April 26.

He gave an example, in the Central Java region the peak load in the Eid period this year rose 6 percent to 3,575 megawatts (MW) compared to last year's Eid moment. Likewise, in East Java, the peak load reached 4,698 MW, growing 2 percent compared to the 2022 homecoming moment.

West Java also experienced a peak load increase. It was noted that the peak load during the day on Eid al-Fitr 2023 reached 4,172 MW, an increase of 8.8 percent compared to the peak electricity load for Eid Al-Fitr in 2022.

In the Banten area, which is mostly an industrial city, experienced an increase in the peak load of 2.17 percent or 42 MW compared to last year. Although many industries have stopped activities, in various other activities such as airports and ports, electricity consumption has increased, the peak load of Eid al-Fitr 1444 H has increased.

Bali Province also recorded a peak load increase of up to 811 MW, up 10 percent compared to last year. "This indicates that Bali's economy is growing, Bali tourism is starting to stretch and many people are taking advantage of this year's Eid holiday to travel to Bali," added Darmawan.

Similar growth occurred in the Sumatra electricity system on Eid al-Fitr 2023 night compared to last year, where the peak load rose from 5,863 MW to 6,103 MW or grew 4.1 percent.

Equitable growth occurred in the peak load of the Sulawesi electricity system on the night of Eid al-Fitr 2023. In South Sulawesi the peak load rose from 1,327 MW to 1,372 MW or grew 1.03 percent, North Sulawesi and Gorontalo from the peak load 365 MW to 367 MW or grew 1 percent and Baubau from 33 MW to 37 MW or grew 1.1 percent.

Meanwhile, in Kalimantan last year, the peak load on Eid was recorded at 1,088 MW, but this year it grew to 1,150 MW. Likewise in the Katulistiwa interconnection area, the peak load was recorded from 340.5 MW to 351.65 MW.

In West Nusa Tenggara, the increase in electricity consumption during the Eid al-Fitr moment at night peak load reached 267.8 MW. The peak load rose 5.85 percent. Meanwhile, for the East Nusa Tenggara system, the peak load reached 93.7 MW and the Flores system with a peak load of 76.18 MW. The peak load in Maluku also grew by 53.91 MW.

Even to the eastern tip of Indonesia, the peak load in Papua grew 4 percent during the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 2023 with a power of 436.45 MW.

The condition of increasing electricity consumption evenly in this area is predicted to occur until D+4 Lebaran. Darmawan said, after the backflow begins, it is predicted that the growth of electricity consumption in big cities will rise again along with the return of community activities to work in urban areas.

"We will continue to monitor continuously and balance supply with demand. So that electricity supply is maintained stably," said Darmawan.

Darmawan explained that during the standby period, nationally, electricity conditions are safe and reliable to meet the needs of the community. PLN has alerted 82 thousand personnel who are on standby 24 hours to maintain the reliability of electricity supply. Spread over 2,000 standby posts throughout Indonesia, PLN is ready to serve and help the community.

PLN is also present at every priority community activity point, such as places of worship, ports, airports, stations, terminals, hospitals, and other vital points.
