PT PLN (Persero) signed a memorandum of understanding between PT PLN Batam, PT PLN Nusantara Power and PT Energi Baru TBS regarding the plan to study the cooperation of potential, development, ownership, and operation of the floating solar power plant (PLTS) project in Indonesia.

Later, the collaboration of the three will present PLTS with a capacity of 42 megawatt peak (MWp) in Batam, Riau Islands.

"This collaboration is carried out to support the government's efforts to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia. PLN cannot stand alone, PLN must be open and collaborate with various parties to jointly achieve the Net Zero Emission 2060 target," said Director of New Renewable Project and Energy Management of PT PLN (Persero) Wiluyo Kusdwiharto to the media, Saturday, April 22.

Wiluyo said that efforts to transition energy to clean energy by increasing the mix of new and renewable energy (EBT) can be the backbone of the Batam electricity system.

He also hopes that the PLTS Apung incident will not only suppress carbon emissions, but the electricity from this plant can be used to illuminate Batam Island and its surroundings which are connected to the PLN Batam electricity network.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PT PLN Batam M. Irwansyah Putra said this Memorandum of Understanding would be the first step for PT PLN Batam, PT PLN Nusantara Power and PT Energi Baru TBS to jointly realize the energy transition.

"The construction of this PLTS is the largest EBT project in the Riau Islands which will improve the economy and become a storefront to invite foreign investors to invest in Batam," said Irwansyah.

Irwansyah added, PLN Batam fully supports the energy transition that has been stated in the Batam PLN RUPTL and is a Government program to increase the new renewable energy mix and development of PLTS to 125 Megawatts (MW) in 2026.

Through the synergy between PT Energi Baru TBS, PT PLN Nusantara Power and PT PLN Batam. We hope that this activity will be a stepping stone to initiating greater cooperation and partnerships for the development of other EBTs. Our hope in the future is that this collaboration will not be limited only in the Batam Region and can be developed for other regions," said Irwansyah.

The President Director of New Energy TBS, Dimas Adi Wibowo also expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with Nusantara Power and PLN Batam. With a capacity of 42 MWp, the total investment to be spent by FFB is estimated at 50 million US dollars and is expected to start operating in 2024.

According to him, this project is TBS' priority in the renewable energy sector and will be the first large-scale renewable energy project on Batam Island.

"We are very enthusiastic to cooperate with Nusantara Power and PLN Batam in this PLTS Apung Tembesi project. This project is an important step in energy transformation on Batam Island and our support for the government's vision to achieve the target of renewable energy," concluded Dimas.
