JAKARTA - Retailer from the Lippo group owned by conglomerate Mochtar Riady, PT Matahari Department Store Tbk (LPPF) expanded its business by opening two new outlets in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan and Kuta, Bali.

The opening of the new outlet at Plaza Balikpapan was held on Wednesday, April 5, and at Discovery Shopping Mall, Kuta, on April 6.

"By bringing the theme 'Time To Grow' this year, we are opening the sixth and seventh new outlets from the outlet opening program that the company has planned. Through these two new outlets, we want to present various choices and experiences of shopping, as well as make Matahari the first choice to shop in this Eid season," said Matahari CEO Terry O'Connor in his official statement.

With a fresher new concept, according to Terry, the two stores offer updated merchandise and better customer shopping experience. The sun uses a 100 percent LED lighting system as the company's commitment to the environment.

"We believe that the presence of these two outlets with modern characteristics will present a different choice of spending for the local community," he said.

Terry explained, Matahari Plaza Balikpapan with an area of 7,550 square meters (m2) provides various categories of products and brands. Meanwhile, Matahari Discovery Shopping Mall Bali with an area of 3,387 m2 will meet shopping needs through recreational products, clothing, footwear, and beauty products.

Terry added that the presence of this new Matahari outlet is expected to have a positive impact on local residents, especially through the absorption of more than 400 workers, of which 90% are local employees. In particular, Matahari Plaza Balikpapan synergizes with the Balikpapan City Trade Office to provide a counter for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to support the local economy.

"To coincide with the inauguration of the two newest outlets, Matahari held a corporate social responsibility program (CSR). Matahari Plaza Balikpapan gave a donation of Rp. 10 million to the Jami Assuda Mosque, and Rp. 10 million to the Mizan Amanah Orphanage. Matahari Discovery Shopping Mall, Bali donated Rp. 10 million to the Tat Twam Asi Orphanage and Rp. 10 million to the Eben Haezer Orphanage," he said.

Currently, Matahari has 155 retail outlets in 81 cities throughout Indonesia, as well as online through Matahari.com, a social commerce platform, and a third-party marketplace. For more than 60 years, Matahari has provided quality, fashionable, and affordable clothing, beauty and shoes products for Indonesian middle class.

Matahari employs more than 30 employees (including SPG of consignment products) and partners with around 600 local and international suppliers.
