JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) together with toll road business entities (BUJT) are implementing a national strategic project (PSN) of the Solo-Yogyakarta-NYIA Kulonprogo Toll Road to improve connectivity and unravel congestion in Central Java and Yogyakarta.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the toll road construction was a super priority project to improve connectivity in the Joglosemar (Jogja-Solo-Semarang) golden triangle area.

So that it is expected to improve the regional economy of Central Java and Yogyakarta, considering that Java Island is the island with the largest GDP contribution in the country.

"This toll road is highly awaited by the public because more than 25,000 vehicles pass Solo-Jogja every day, so it has been crowded, even in certain periods it is very bad. We will immediately complete it so that the traffic will run even smoother," Minister Basuki said in a written statement, quoted on Tuesday, February 28.

The 96.57 km Solo-Yogyakarta-NYIA Kulonprogo Toll Road consists of 3 sections, namely section 1 package 1.1 section Kartasura-Klaten 22.3 km, section 1 package 1.2 Klaten-Purwomartani 20.08 km.

Next, section 2 package 2.1 section of Purwomartani-Monjali 9.43 km, section 2 package 2.2 section of the 14 km Monjali-Gamping section.

Then, section 3 package 3.1 of the Gamping-Wates section 17.45 km, and section 3 packages 3.2 of the Wates-Purworejo section 13.32 km. Currently, land acquisition and construction work are being carried out in section 1.

"The land acquisition until Klaten has reached 94.06 percent and will be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2023. If the land is finished, the physical progress, God willing, December 2023 will be completed," said Basuki.

For section 1, precisely about 6 km from the Kartasura interchange towards Klaten, it is targeted to be functional as the Lebaran 2023 route.

This functional road opening is to break up congestion that often occurs in Kartasura during Eid.

Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani explained that the total investment for the Solo-Yogyakarta-NYIA Kulonprogo Toll Road was IDR 27.48 trillion. The cost of land acquisition alone reaches IDR 5.902 trillion, sourced from the state budget.

"People whose land is released receive compensation according to the results of the negotiations, so that people continue to benefit, for the sake of national projects whose impact will definitely be greater for the economy of the people in the region." added Basuki.
