The Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources Targets 300,000 Electric Motors In 2023

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said the government is targeting the implementation of electric vehicles by 2023 at 300,000 electric motors.

Special Staff to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for the Acceleration of Minerba Governance, Irwandy Arif said this number is a combination of a new motorbike and a conversion motorbike.

"The acceleration of the implementation of electric vehicles in 2023 is targeted at around 300,000 new electric motors and the conversion of fuel motors and 600 thousand by 2024," he said while representing the Minister of Energy & Mining Outlook 2023 Thursday, February 23.

However, Irwandy was reluctant to specify the target for new electric motors and conversion motors.

He assured that this was done to reduce dependence on energy imports in meeting national energy needs.

He further said that the current geopolitical dynamics that are difficult to predict have affected supply and energy prices in 2022 and will continue in 2023 are an economic threat to each country including Indonesia.

"In the midst of global pressure, the government has made difficult decisions in 2022 by increasing the selling price of fuel to maintain the country's financial ability to ensure the availability of funding for the health sector, education and strategic infrastructure," explained Irwandy.

Previously, the Government would impose subsidies on electric vehicles starting March 2023. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif said that later the subsidies given to cars were not in the form of money.

"In the past, there were four-wheeled vehicles, but not money," said Arifin in Jakarta, Monday, February 20.

Meanwhile, the amount of subsidies for electric motors will be given in the amount of Rp. 7 million either for conversion motors or for the purchase of new motorcycles.

For 2023, the government will disburse subsidies for the purchase of new electric motors or conversions of 50,000 units.

"This year, we will convert to a minimum of 50,000 first. But we are still trying to develop workshops. Later, we will work with the Minister of Transportation to be able to develop workshops," concluded Arifin.
