PALANGKA RAYA - Stocks of rice and cooking oil in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, have been declared safe and sufficient until Idul Fitri 2023. However, there is still potential to threaten the availability of rice and cooking oil.

Head of the Department of Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Industry for the City of Palangka Raya, Samsul Rizal, said that stocks of rice and cooking oil would remain safe if there were no distributors selling the two staples outside his territory.

"Based on the results of our sudden inspection, stocks of rice and cooking oil were safe until Idul Fitri, but when the manager sells out of the area, the supply will be slightly disrupted," said Samsul, as reported by Antara, Saturday, February 18.

He also asked the public not to over-purchase these two food commodities. The reason is, this can affect the market stock and make consumers panic.

To anticipate this, the City of Palangka Raya DPKUKMP also continues to communicate with distributors of rice and cooking oil in the local area.

"When there is a stock shortage, we immediately anticipate with various efforts, one of which is to carry out a low-cost market in the local city so that people do not panic with conditions like this," he explained.

Samsul Rizal emphasized, for the transportation of supplies of goods that were intentionally imported, most of them were from the City of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

Even though the delivery of goods by sea is currently experiencing delays because the waves at sea are also high at this time. However, this does not affect distribution channels and food prices in traditional markets and government-owned markets in the area.

"Thank God there were no disturbances, as long as there is no flooding in the Pulang Pisau Regency area. If that happens, of course, there will be disturbances and the impact will be quite large. Hopefully what we are worried about will not happen," he said.

In the near future, the City Government of Palangka Raya will also hold a bazaar at a number of points. Packages of goods in the low-cost market will later be subsidized, with the aim of helping to ease the burden on society, especially since all goods sold in the market are quite expensive.
