JAKARTA The candidate for Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Dwi Pranoto emphasized that he supports the government's efforts in processing raw materials into added value goods.

According to him, the strategy better known as downstreaming is in line with the central bank's agenda to continue to strengthen the national economy.

"We need to continue to navigate economic growth through strengthening priority sectors. We strongly support downstreaming. I think downstreaming is the key word for our game changer," he said during a fit and proper test organized by Commission XI of the DPR, Monday, February 13.

Dwi explained that Bank Indonesia could also play a role as a potential commodity reviewer who could support the stability of the rupiah exchange rate.

"If we focus, CPO products can be produced in the Sumatra region. Then coal in Kalimantan, petrochemical commodities in Java, copper in Nusa Tenggara, and nickel and metal goods are in Sulawesi," he said.

Dwi added that he also said he was committed to cooperating with micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the downstream agenda.

"We will increase the capacity of MSMEs so that they can meet national and global industrial standards," he stressed.

On that occasion, Dwi also explained his three missions if he was trusted to be the elected Deputy Governor of BI, namely economic macro resilience which will focus on controlling inflation.

Then, economic revival was achieved through strong domestic growth and sustainability that would be achieved through new economic resources and optimizing the role of BI representative offices in the regions.

Dwi himself is currently still serving as Assistant Governor of BI as well as Head of Regional Department after previously occupying the position of Head of BI Region III Representative, Head of BI Region IV Representative, and Head of Regional Department II.
