JAKARTA - Starting with the optimism for performance in 2023, PT PGN Tbk as Pertamina's Gas Subholding added gas distribution to 3 industries using a natural gas pipeline network in Karawang, West Java. With added value that is efficient and environmentally friendly, this industrial customer is engaged in various sectors.

PGN Karawang Area has started distributing gas to PT Saltindo Perkasa which is engaged in the salt production sector with an average volume of gas usage of 25.000 M3 for dryers. Previously, PT Saltindo had used Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel or compressed natural gas which was channeled using a non-pipeline mode.

Initial gas distribution was also carried out for PT Glico Wings, which is an ice cream industry that will use natural gas with an average volume of 100.000 M3. Apart from dryers, PT Glico uses natural gas for boiler energy.

In addition, PT Bu Kwang Textile Indonesia as an industry in the textile footwear sector will absorb natural gas of an average of 50.000 M3 for boilers.

"Just like PT Saltindo, previously PT Glico and PT Bu Kwang Textile have used CNG. Industrial customers have felt the advantages of natural gas, which is more efficient in terms of price and cleaner. These two main advantages are quite attractive to the industry, of course they can reduce costs. energy and carbon emissions," said PGN Karawang Area Head Ade Sutisna, Wednesday, January 11.

Ade continued, the use of cleaner energy for the environment today is a world concern, along with awareness of environmental preservation. He hopes that the use of natural gas which is cleaner than other fossil fuels in Karawang industries can complement the use of green technology in the industrial sector.

With 3 industrial customers in Karawang it has increased to 167 industries. To serve customers throughout the Karawang area, it has a pipeline infrastructure of 157.36 KM and distributes natural gas of 83.63 BBTUD.

"We continue to be optimistic to increase gas distribution in Karawang, especially since Karawang is one of the major industrial centers in West Java. In the future, the Karawang industry will definitely grow, we are trying to be in line with industries interested in using natural gas energy which continues to increase. In West Java has been connected to the South Sumatra West Java (SSWJ) pipeline network, so that supply can be more guaranteed," explained Ade.

In Indonesia, the government continues to encourage all sectors, including industry, to make an energy transition to environmentally friendly energy. At this momentum, natural gas has the potential to optimize its utilization.

Thus, apart from being able to boost industry performance and competitiveness, the large use of natural gas contributes to decarbonization efforts and the NZE 2060 target.
