JAKARTA - PT RMK Energy Tbk (RMKE IJ) recorded coal transportation of 871 thousand tons of coal in December 2022. This is the highest volume of service during 2022, or a significant increase of 78.7 percent YoY.

The Company's Finance Director, Vincent Saputra, said that in the fourth quarter of 2022 alone, RMKE transported 2.4 million tons of coal, an increase of 63.2 percent YoY.

"Until the end of 2022, RMKE has succeeded in loading 7.8 million tons of coal, an increase of 31.3 percent YoY and achieved 100 percent of this year's target," he said in an official statement, Wednesday, January 11.

From the coal sales segment, Vincent continued, RMKE managed to sell 253,000 tons of coal in December 2022, an increase of 19.6 percent YoY.

In the fourth quarter of 2022, RMKE sold 678 thousand tons of coal, an increase of 25.9 percent YoY. Throughout 2022, RMKE also managed to sell 2.5 million tons of coal, an increase of 45.1 percent YoY and reached 109.8 percent of this year's target.

"In total volume, the contribution of coal sales and services was 24.1 percent and 75.9 percent, respectively," he continued.

He further added that the increasing demand for low-calorie coal is expected to continue in the coming years citing lower costs to meet the current urgent energy security needs.

"The economic condition of Indonesia and the world, which are still not fully recovered, is also the reason for choosing low-calorie coal to meet domestic and global energy needs, this is evidenced by the demand for coal with low-calories still growing significantly and having prices that tend to be stable in 2022," explained Vincent.

This condition, he continued, is a good opportunity for RMKE, which is currently still focused on providing seamless logistics services for low-calorie coal.

"To improve operational performance in 2023, the Company will focus on completing the hauling road project which will be integrated with several mines in Muara Enim, including mines owned by PTBA. Opportunities for energy security and economic conditions that have not fully recovered are still a positive catalyst for RMKE this year. The company also continues to see opportunities for collaboration in the energy sector to increase the volume of services and coal sales in the future," concluded Vincent.
