BANDARLAMPUNG - Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) Lampung asked business actors to immediately carry out halal certification for their products before October 2024.

"We always urge business actors to immediately carry out halal certificates because there is an obligation for this until 2024 as stipulated in Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee," said Head of the Lampung Ministry of Religion Regional Office Puji Raharjo, quoted by Antara, Sunday 4 December.

According to him, if until 2024 business actors do not carry out halal certification of their products, they will be subject to sanctions in accordance with applicable laws.

"So for now the sanctions have not been imposed even though there is no halal certification of food and beverage products, but in the future after October 2024 the sanctions will apply," he said.

Therefore, he said that the Lampung Ministry of Religion continues to encourage awareness, both middle, large and small business actors to immediately carry out halal certification.

"Especially for micro and small enterprises (UMK), why is there free halal certification because the government thinks about them in the future so there is no more reason. For middle and upper enterprises, we also encourage them to continue to be aware, they can carry out halal certification regularly to institutions that handle halal certification," he said.

Then, he also said that every food that contains non-halal materials must also include the information.

"This halal certification is to protect Muslims so that they can carry out their religion according to their belief, we do not teach religion in a formal form but in practice. The point is that halal food must be obtained by Muslims, so the state is present so that Muslims can practice their beliefs," he said.

Previously, the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of Lampung had carried out halal certification to 14,558 micro and small businesses (UMK) in the free halal certification program (Sehati).
