JAKARTA - The Government of Indonesia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are increasing bilateral cooperation between the two countries through the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the energy sector.

This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed directly by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of Indonesia Arifin Tasrif and the Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia, HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

"The purpose of the MoU is to establish a general framework for cooperation in the energy sector based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, and mutual respect," said Arifin in a written statement, Wednesday, November 16.

The areas of cooperation agreed in the MoU include oil and gas, electricity, renewable energy, energy efficiency and clean hydrogen. In addition, it is also related to the carbon circular (CCE) economy and its technology to reduce the impact of climate change as well as digital transformation, innovation, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence in the energy sector.

To implement the areas of cooperation that have been agreed upon, activities will be carried out including exchange of information and experience, exchange of visits between experts and specialists, holding conferences and work seminars, conducting joint studies, strengthening cooperation between energy companies.

"In addition, the two countries also agreed to develop a qualitative partnership to localize materials, products, and services related to all energy sectors, supply chains, and technology as well as the development of the chemical industry," explained Arifin.

As an initial follow-up to this MoU, a special working team (Job Team) will be formed consisting of representatives of both parties with the same number of members to consult on procedures and steps that need to be taken to strengthen and develop cooperation under the MoU.
