BALI - PT PLN (Persero) cooperates with Hyundai Kefico and Consortiums for the development of Public Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Station (SPBKLU) or battery swaps for two-wheeled electric vehicles.

This collaboration was realized by making the Bali area a pilot project with the provision of 50 units of two-wheeled electric motorized vehicles by Hyundai Kefico to PLN to support PLN operations during the G20 Summit. This collaboration also includes the installation and infrastructure of SPBKLU in accordance with the agreement.

Head of the Bali Provincial Transportation Agency, I Gde Wayan Samsi Gunarta, explained that Bali Province is actively encouraging electric vehicles. He added that all parties, both PLN, the private sector and the government must work together to make the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem a success.

"Currently, people are still hesitant and not confident about buying electric vehicles, including where to repair damaged vehicles. So it is necessary to develop a labeling concept to provide certainty and security to consumers in determining electric vehicle products," he explained.

General Manager of Hyundai Kefico ASEAN Region Control Office, Jay Un Chun revealed that synergy between governments and companies in Indonesia is needed to create a business model that is able to spur the development of an electric vehicle ecosystem.

"Within 3 months the proof of concept trial activities are expected to be able to get the expected results. We want to provide better performance in terms of quality and safety through our products," Jay said.

He revealed that Bali was chosen as the best place to try out a place to form an electric vehicle ecosystem, not only in terms of population growth but also various forms of business models that support tourism.

Executive Vice President of Retail Regional Java, Madura, and Bali, Abdul Farid, when opening a proof of concept activity said this activity could be the beginning so that electric motorcycles could be received immediately in the community.

"This event is very strategic, this is a trial activity that is intended to support the ecosystem climate of electric vehicles, especially two-wheeled ones, so that it can be accepted in the community, because this electric motorcycle segment certainly requires a more competitive price," said Farid.

He added that currently the problem with electric motors is on the battery side and in range.

The average existing technology has reached 100500 km, even up to 1,000 km, but the problem is the price.

"Making a motorbike with one refill can reach 100200 km, but not necessarily feasible in terms of price. From this trial activity, it is hoped that it will be able to answer this challenge, of course with the support of technology, namely battery swaps, so that it becomes a solution," he explained.

Farid also hopes that the development of electric motors will later be able to answer the doubts of the community and from the proof of concept trial, the best formula can also be found.
