KSP Moeldoko: Hydropower Plant Kayan Groundbreaking December 2022

Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Moeldoko said that the government will immediately execute the construction of the Kayan hydropower plant in North Kalimantan. According to him, this step could be a major breakthrough in achieving the goal of realizing energy independence by prioritizing environmentally friendly principles.

Moeldoko explained that the Kayan hydropower plant is a history of Indonesia in developing green energy. "This is an answer for our future," he said. The Kayan Cascade hydropower plant has a capacity of 9000 Megawattt with a total investment value of 17.8 billion US dollars. This facility is also a tangible form of support for the commitment of the Indonesian government in the Paris Agreement and CPOP26 related to the green economy. "This is a large investment project and may be a legacy from President Jokowi for the development of clean energy in Indonesia," he said.

The plan is for the Kayan Cascade hydropower project to be completed in 2027. In operational activities, the largest hydroelectric power plant in Southeast Asia will supply green industrial areas developed by PT Indonesia Strategis Industri (ISI) and electricity needs on the island of Kalimantan in general. Through the construction of the Kayan Cascade hydropower plant, the attractiveness of this green industrial area will be stronger for all industry groups who care about reducing carbon emissions.
