KPPU Holds Trial Of Alleged Cooking Oil Cartel Cases Against 27 Companies

JAKARTA - The Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) will hold a Preliminary Examination Council Session on the alleged cooking oil cartel case on Monday, October 17.

"We inform you that the cooking oil case is entering the stage of the Commission Council Trial. The first Preliminary Examination will be held at 09.00 WIB," quoted from the agenda distributed by the KPPU's Bureau of Public Relations and Cooperation, Sunday, October 16.

For your information, KPPU has been investigating the case of the alleged cooking oil cartel since last March.

The investigation was carried out because at that time there was an increase in prices and a shortage of oil in the country.

The investigation into the alleged cooking oil cartel is registered under number 03-16/DH/KPPU.LID.I/III/2022 concerning Alleged Violations of Law No. 5 of 1999 (Law 5/99) regarding the Production and Marketing of Cooking Oil in Indonesia.

As previously reported, the Head of the KPPU's Committee, Ahmad Muhari, said that the agenda for the upcoming trial is the first Preliminary Examination, in which the KPPU's Prosecution Investigator will read and/or submit a Report of Alleged Violations (LDP) alleged to the reported parties.

The case is registered under number 15/KPPU-I/2022 concerning Alleged Violations of Article 5 (price fixing) and Article 19 letter c (restriction of

circulation/sale of goods) Law No. 5/1999 on the sale of packaged cooking oil in Indonesia (the Cooking Oil Case).

Ahmad said there were 27 companies that were reported in the case.

After submitting the LDP, said Ahmad, the reported parties have the right to respond to the Alleged Violation Report submitted by the KPPU Prosecution Investigator by submitting evidence.

"The entire Preliminary Examination will be carried out within a maximum period of 30 days, starting from the first trial attended by the reported party," he said in an official statement, quoted Thursday, October 13.
