Khofifah Welcomes President Jokowi's Instruction On Electric Cars As Official Vehicles

JEMBER - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa welcomed the Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Joko Widodo (Jokowi) Number 7 of 202 regarding the use of electric cars as government official vehicles.

"The East Java Provincial Government will synergize with related parties to immediately adjust operational service vehicles and individual vehicles within the East Java Provincial Government to be converted to electric vehicles," Khofifah said as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, September 18.

For this reason, she is currently preparing a budget strategy for the procurement of electric cars.

"The point is we are ready. So far we have tried to identify and with the Presidential Instruction, we are ready to prepare for the use of electric vehicles,"

According to her, it is very important to implement it to achieve Indonesia's big goal of carbon emissions, namely the vision of net zero emissions by 2060.

"The goal of zero carbon emissions must be prepared strategically from now on, so that the next generation will continue and enjoy the results. Hopefully, it can be a charity for us to bequeath a healthier and cleaner environment to the world," she said.

Khofifah explained that regulations or policies to support the Presidential Instruction will soon be drawn up, so that her party will conduct studies and main coordination regarding standard costs to be included in the budget.

"Anyway, we are ready to follow up on the Presidential Instruction. God willing, starting with the East Java Provincial Government and the district/city governments first, the community will follow suit," she said.

She hopes that she can synergize with universities in East Java in developing electric vehicles as a form of follow-up to the presidential instruction.

Khofifah explained, that East Java has also sought energy conversion to the use of renewable sources with the current achievement of East Java's renewable energy mix in 2021 of 6.72 percent equivalent to 1270 MW exceeding the target of 6.5 percent.

Then the construction of a Mini-hydro Power Plant (PLTM) which is being carried out by the Sumber Arum 2 (3 MW) PLTM, Bayu PLTM (3.6 MW) in Banyuwangi, then Kanzi I in Purwodadi, Pasuruan, which is expected to illuminate 2,000-3,000 houses with a capacity 2.3 MW.

For the development of PLTS roofs and islands, ± 43.8 MW has been built, while the Waste Power Plant has been built 10.65 MW in Benowo, Surabaya and PG Pesatren, Kediri, and Asembagus Situbondo of 32 MW.

East Java also has a lot of renewable energy potential, including water energy (1,667 MW), wind energy (7,907 MW), geothermal energy (predicted to reach 1,012 MW), ocean wave energy (1,200 MW), solar energy (10,335 MW), and biomass (3,421 MW), The total potential of NRE is 25,542 MW, when compared to the total installed electricity generation of PLN in East Java which is currently 10,132 MW.

"We also have the potential for biogas energy and biogenic gas with enormous potential spread throughout the north of East Java to Madura Island. The source of this biogenic gas energy in addition to methane gas, also comes from animal waste which is used in two directions," she said.

She said the gas could be used as a source of energy for cooking and lighting, and even the rest of the manure could be used for fertilizer, so there would be no shortage of waste in East Java as long as it is managed properly.
