JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that there was a significant increase in imports of goods from Kazakhstan in the August 2022 period.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics BPS Setianto said that this condition made Kazakhstan included in the top five countries that contributed the most imports of Indonesia.

"Import from Kazakhstan in August 2022 is worth USD 103.2 billion," he said when holding a press conference on Thursday, September 15.

According to Setianto, Indonesia brought in several important commodities from the Central Asian country to meet the domestic needs

"The import commodities from Kazakhstan include iron and steel (HS 73) with a value of 57.7 million US dollars, mineral fuel (HS 27) with a value of 45 million US dollars, and fierceness, sulfur, stone and cement (HS 25). worth 1.4 million US dollars," he said.

Setianto added that China's largest increase in imports last month amounted to 633.9 million US dollars. Followed by Germany of 142 million US dollars, Malaysia of 125.7 million US dollars, and Australia of 119.8 million US dollars.

Meanwhile, total imports in January-August were recorded at 159.6 billion US dollars with exports of 194.6 billion US dollars. As a result, Indonesia managed to record a trade balance surplus of 34.9 billion US dollars.

Just so you know, the trade balance surplus in the eight months of this year almost matched the surplus record throughout 2021 which amounted to 35.3 billion US dollars.
