Good News For Travelers, Here's How To Use Rupiah In Thailand

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) has officially stated that the use of rupiah currency can be carried out in Thailand for certain financial and trade transactions.

This condition is due to the achievement of the BI agreement with the Central Bank of Thailand which was announced yesterday, Monday, August 29. So, how to use the rupiah currency in the White Elephant Country?

Quoting one of the official Bank Indonesia channels, it is stated that transactions in Thailand can be carried out by scanning a QR code for payment applications that are connected to QRIS. Thus, the Indonesian people simply fill in their domestic electronic wallet balance and can use it on Thai merchants who provide payments via a QR code.

"Bank Indonesia's innovation in synergy with partner countries is to provide more choices for cross-border payment transaction users and can increase transaction efficiency, promote a digital economy and financial inclusion, as well as strengthen macroeconomic stability through wider use of local currencies," said the monetary authority on the verified Instagram account with a blue tick @Bank_Indonesia quoted Tuesday, August 30.

According to VOI records, BI Governor Perry Warjiyo had revealed that the collaboration achieved was an effort to encourage the digitization of cross-border payments.

"This initiative is seen as being able to provide more choice for users of cross-border payment transactions and play an important role in increasing transaction efficiency, promoting the digital economy and financial inclusion, and strengthening macroeconomic stability," Perry said.
