BANJARMASIN - The price of broiler eggs in South Kalimantan has increased quite a bit. Now the price of broiler eggs in South Kalimantan reaches Rp. 28 thousand - Rp. 30,000 per kilogram.

In fact, the stock of chicken eggs in South Kalimantan is quite sufficient. So what makes the price of eggs increase?

"The price is still high, because it has been adjusted due to rising production costs," said Head of the South Kalimantan Trade Office, Birhasani, as reported by Antara, Saturday, August 27.

Birhasani explained that the supply of eggs in South Kalimantan per day is at least 175 tons. If calculated per month, the total availability is around 5,425 tons. "The need for South Kalimantan is only about 3,500 tons per month, it means a surplus," he said.

This availability has not been calculated in the distribution of eggs from East Java entering South Kalimantan. For this reason, some of the eggs were actually distributed to East Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.

"If the price is indeed from the fasting month (April 2022) until now in the range of Rp. 28 thousand - Rp. 30 thousand. If the stock is only large," he said.

At times of uncertain prices like this, it is normal for traders not to keep a lot of stock, for fear of suddenly falling prices. "Indeed, eggs cannot be stored for a long time, because they will be damaged. So, traders do not want to stock up a lot for fear of loss," he said.

Confiscating eggs from farmers and distributors, he said, on the one hand makes it easier for traders to get selling supplies. "So, the stock in small traders does not mean problematic availability," he explained.

Based on national food price data, the selling value of eggs per kg in traditional markets as of August 26 at Antasari Market Banjarmasin is IDR 29 thousand, at Tanjung Tabalong Market IDR 30,500, and at Kotabaru Prosperity Market IDR 35 thousand.

Since the beginning of last month, the price of eggs in the three markets has stabilized high in this price range. Previously, the lowest price before Ramadhan 2022 was in the range of Rp26 thousand-Rp28 thousand.
