Don't Let The Price Of Subsidized Fuel Rise, People Will Be Miserable

JAKARTA - Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives Andre Rosiade asked the government to take immediate action regarding the issue of rising fuel prices, which is currently being discussed.

Andre assessed that the government needs to make control rules so that subsidized fuel can really be enjoyed by those who are entitled to it.

"We have repeatedly told the government to take action. What is the action? Will the government increase the quota? It can, but of course, this depends on the ability of the state budget. target," he said in a Working Meeting with the Minister of SOEs and the Minister of Trade in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 24.

Andre does not want an increase in fuel prices in the midst of the economic situation of the people who are starting to squirm.

For this reason, the regulation on controlling subsidized fuel is considered to be the right solution in the midst of the dwindling availability of subsidized fuel, and the impact of many people switching to using subsidized fuel due to rising world oil prices.

"We propose to the government our hope that there will be no increase in fuel prices. For this reason, we propose that there should be rules to control how the derivative of Presidential Decree No. 191 of 2014 must be made and made," he continued.

He hoped that the relevant ministries would soon hold a limited meeting with President Joko Widodo to discuss the control of the subsidized fuel.

"Mr. Minister, please bring this to the meeting, convey it to the President so that there is a clear decision on the control rules so that subsidized fuel is used, enjoyed by those who are entitled to it and we hope that the increase in fuel prices should not be done yet, because it's a pity for the people," he concluded.

Previously reported, until July 2022, state-owned company PT Pertamina recorded Pertalite consumption had reached 16.8 million kiloliters, equivalent to 73.04 percent of the total quota set at 23 million kiloliters.

This high consumption rate makes the Pertalite quota remaining only 6.2 million kiloliters (KL). Meanwhile, energy subsidies have swelled from Rp. 152.2 trillion to Rp. 502.4 trillion.
