Vice President Ma'ruf Amin: 80 Percent Of Households Already Live At Home

JAKARTA - Vice President (Vice President) Ma'ruf Amin said as many as 80 percent of Indonesian households already live at home with their own status.

"Most of the households in Indonesia, around 80 percent, are already living in their own houses," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin in his online remarks at the Launch of the Sharia Public Housing Savings (Tapera) in Banda Aceh, quoted from Antara, Tuesday 23 August.

The Vice President believes that for people who do not meet their needs for housing, or do not have a house with property rights, then of course they want to make it happen, considering that housing is a basic individual right, as well as a means of family development.

However, not all people have the financial maturity to buy housing, especially for urban communities, where the affordability of owning a house is also influenced by housing prices which tend to increase every year, even above the average purchasing power.

Therefore, said the Vice President, Tapera Syariah is one of the means to help realize home ownership for the community, whose needs are increasing, now reaching 12.75 million units.

"Tapera Syariah is also a manifestation of economic development that is in line with maqashid sharia because it facilitates the needs of the community through the presence of a housing savings scheme that is in accordance with sharia principles," explained the Vice President.

According to him, the momentum for the launch of Tapera Syariah is also considered very appropriate. For the financial services industry, the trend of Islamic lifestyles with the increasing public preference for sharia-compliant products/services has created an attractive new market.

He conveyed that the increase in people's preferences was not only seen in the financial services sector and other leading sectors of the Islamic economy, but also in the housing sector.

Based on data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), home financing from Islamic banks reached IDR 103.24 trillion as of March 2022, up nearly 12 percent compared to the same period the previous year.

The vice president also received a report that as of August 2022 there were 6.75 percent of active Tapera participants who expressed interest in sharia financing principles.

"Given the public's preference for Islamic housing financing will continue to increase, there is still a large room for the development of Tapera Syariah in the future," said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.
