If BBM Really Rises, Efficient Cars Will Be Glanced

JAKARTA - Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Anton Jimmi Suwandy predicts cars with the advantage of being fuel efficient will be increasingly ogled by the public if the price of fuel oil (BBM) increases.

"Consumers will be smarter in choosing what products will be suitable in conditions of expensive fuel, of course they will choose an economical car," said Anton, quoting Antara, Sunday, August 21.

As is known, the possibility of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will announce an increase in fuel prices in the near future.

Responding to the possibility of an increase in fuel prices, Anton said there are important points that must be considered, one of which is whether the increase in fuel will have an impact on the economy.

If the economy is affected, he said, the automotive market will certainly experience a decline. In the midst of this decline, people are believed to be more selective in choosing vehicles, especially in considering fuel economy.

Anton said Toyota has a line of fuel-efficient vehicles that can be people's choice.

"What is efficient now is our line up? Surely for example LCGC and maybe for the class with new Veloz or Avanza, Raize, or hybrid models. So there will be a shift to more efficient segments," he said.

Furthermore, Anton said that his party will also prepare looser credit packages to adjust to people's conditions if the fuel price hike actually occurs.

"Surely we will monitor it, if we need looser credit packages or those that are tailored to consumers, we will certainly make them together with our affiliates," he said.
