JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Industry stated that the textile and textile product (TPT) industry has a strategic role in the industrialization process in Indonesia.

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that the central position was because the input and output of the textile industry had strong links with other sectors ranging from raw materials in the form of fiber to consumer goods in the form of apparel.

According to Agus, the value of textile exports increased significantly by 28 percent compared to last year, which was mainly driven by apparel and yarn.

"Industrial investment also increased by 6.4 percent until the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period the previous year," he said.

For information, the export value of the textile industry reached 13.02 billion US dollars last year. This sector is able to absorb a workforce of 3.65 million people or 18.79 percent of the total workers in the manufacturing industry sector.
