JAKARTA - Members of Civil 20 (C20) from all over the world gathered in Jakarta in the middle of this week to voice the resolution of the current political, economic and social turmoil to the G20 leaders.
The chairman of C20 Indonesia, Sugeng Bahagijo, said that the current global condition was facing a crisis situation.
According to him, the multidimensional global crisis must be handled faster, more fairly, and sustainably.
"It is important for G20 leaders to put the people above politics, because economic growth is not possible without a real contribution from the voice of the people, and the active participation of all levels of society including women and people with disabilities," he said in an official statement on Friday, July 29.
According to him, around 71 million people had fallen into extreme poverty in the first quarter of 2022.
"There are more than 250 million people estimated to need humanitarian assistance and protection by the end of the year," he said.
Sugeng added that the G20 must increase the quantity and quality of funding for the crisis and recognize non-state actors as humanitarian actors.
He said it was time for leadership to shift from doing good for oneself to doing good for others.

Sugeng also said that the G20 needed to make real efforts to provide and share resources in order to prevent and deal with the ongoing pressure.
He stated that 2022 is the year in which the number of people who need humanitarian assistance is the most compared to previous years.
This number is still growing and is triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, climate crisis, socio-economic injustice, socio-political conflicts, food and energy crises, inflation, bad governance, and others.
"The issue of climate change is also one of the biggest triggers for the escalation of global humanitarian turmoil because it is possible that we will fail to meet the target of the Paris Agreement, which is limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius or lower," concluded Sugeng.
