JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir offered South Korea to invest in the health sector, especially in the special economic zone (SEZ) of Sanur, Bali, with full support from hospital and pharmaceutical sector companies.

The investment opportunity for South Korea was conveyed by Erick Thohir during a working visit with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to South Korea.

This investment opportunity was opened because Erick wanted to invite South Korea to build the Sanur SEZ which is planned to become a health tourism center.

"Sanur SEZ will become a health and fitness tourism center with international standard facilities," he said in an official statement quoted Friday, July 29.

Not only the Sanur SEZ, Erick also opened up opportunities for cooperation between the Telkom Group and South Korea.

Erick said that Indonesia has the largest digital economy potential in Southeast Asia and is predicted to reach IDR 4.500 trillion in 2030 or eight times larger than GDP.

"Telkom is currently focused on developing digital infrastructure and Telkomsel is focusing on being an aggregator for creative content. Of course, South Korea also has the same interest regarding the prospects for the digital economy," said Erick.

Previously, the state-owned steel producer Krakatau Steel managed to attract incoming investment from South Korea through Posco worth USD 3.5 billion or approximately, IDR 52.2 trillion.

This was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia, President Director of Krakatau Steel Silmy Karim, and Posco CEO Kim Hag Dong in Seoul, South Korea, Thursday, July 28.

Erick Thohir positively welcomed Posco's investment plan. Erick assessed that the investment plan from Posco would further strengthen the vision of PT Krakatau Steel, a joint venture between PT Krakatau Steel and Posco to become the largest steel player in Southeast Asia.

The cooperation, said Erick, is in accordance with President Jokowi's directives to reduce imports of raw materials.

Therefore, the signing of the MoU on strategic cooperation between Krakatau Steel and Posco in the steel industry was witnessed directly by Jokowi.

"Of course, the MoU is a real step for SOEs in supporting the strengthening of the steel and automotive industry ecosystem in Indonesia," said Erick.

Erick said that the investment value would be realized in the form of increasing automotive steel production capacity for the electric vehicle industry to the Nusantara Capital (IKN) project.

Erick said, this collaboration also strengthens the integrated national steel ecosystem.
