JAKARTA - Deputy for Coordination of Regional Development and Spatial Planning of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Wahyu Utomo, said the government is optimistic that the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Train (KCJB) can operate in 2023.

"We believe that the high-speed train will be operational soon, hopefully next year," Wahyu said as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 26.

He emphasized that his party together with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment are currently continuing to carry out strict supervision of the KCJB project.

The reason is that the KCJB project is one of the goals of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit during the G20 Summit in Indonesia in November 2022.

Wahyu, who is also the Chief Executive of the Committee for the Acceleration of Priority Infrastructure Provision (KPPIP), added that most of the construction of the KCJB project has been completed.

"What may be being worked on at the moment is the one at the depot. Work on the stations has also started," he said.

Regarding the time there was a cost overrun in the KCJB project, he explained, the issue was still being discussed because there was also a request that this cost overrun could be borne by the Government of Indonesia.

Thus, currently the request for cost overrun coverage by the Government of Indonesia is being calculated by the Ministry of Finance.
